A two-match T20I series is ongoing between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Sri Lanka won the first match of the series by 4 wickets. Now, the two teams will face off in the second game. New Zealand bowler Locke Ferguson created history in this match. Rocky Ferguson had performed such a feat against Sri Lanka, a feat that had been seen in New Zealand’s T20I match against Sri Lanka 5 years ago. In fact, Rocky Ferguson caused a sensation by chasing down three Sri Lankan batsmen with three consecutive balls to score a hat-trick. Five years ago, Lasith Malinga had accomplished the same feat.
Rocky Ferguson dismissed Kusal Perera on the last ball of the sixth over of Sri Lanka’s innings. He then completed his hat-trick by sending Kusal Mendis to the pavilion on the first ball of the eighth over and sending skipper Charisse Asaranka for a pavilion duck in the second ball . In this way, he became the fifth New Zealand bowler to take a hat-trick in T20I cricket. Previously, Jacob Oram, Tim Southee (twice), Michael Bracewell and Matt Henry have all achieved this feat.
