TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee’s controversial statement in Scindia has created a ruckus in the House.
There were heated debates and ruckus in the Lok Sabha during the winter session of Parliament on Wednesday. A heated argument broke out between TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee and Union Minister and BJP MP Jyotiraditya Scindia. The matter intensified when Kayan Banerjee took a dig at Scindia and called him handsome, a villain and a murderess. Scindia took offense to the comment and termed it personal and insulting.
In his speech, Kalyan Banerjee also raised questions about Scindia’s family and said, “You are a prince, but that does not mean you should treat others as little people.” In response, Scindia replied Said: “I will not remain silent if my family is slandered.” No person with any dignity would tolerate such a thing. His speech was followed by a heated debate between the two leaders.
Kayan Banerjee apologizes
Seeing the growing uproar, Kayan Banerjee apologized for her remarks. He said his intention was not to hurt anyone. Scindia, however, rejected his apology and said it was an insult not only to him but also to women in the country. He said: “The debate in the House should be about policy rather than personal comments. Every MP comes here with self-respect.
Congresswomen protest
Bharatiya Janata Party MPs, especially women MPs, expressed strong protest against Kayan Banerjee’s remarks. He called it an insult to women and demanded Banerjee’s suspension. There was a contentious and noisy atmosphere in the House between the ruling and opposition parties. There have been repeated disruptions to the functioning of the House of Representatives and proceedings have had to be adjourned.
