The NDA’s troubles show no signs of easing ahead of by-elections to nine seats in Uttar Pradesh. A rebellion broke out in Nishad’s party after the BJP fielded a candidate from Mirzapur’s Majewan constituency. Its officials and workers were angry as the seat was not included in the Nishad party’s quota. Many workers have quit the Nishad Party. State Secretary Santosh Kumar Nishad and dozens of workers announced their resignation from the party on Saturday.
Santosh Kumar Nishad accused Nishad Party national president Sanjay Nishad of promoting nepotism and neglecting party workers. He said the party was formed to uplift the Nishad community. But state president Sanjay Nishad is leading the party on his terms. No hearings were held for the officials. The core committee has the responsibility to take decisions related to the party, but Sanjay Nishad takes all the decisions in his own head. Workers aside, they are taking care of their families and their people.
Santosh Kumar Nishad said the party has secured a ticket from Pushpalata Bind, the Majhwan assembly seat. But Sanjay Nishad left the seat open for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Pushpalata Bind did a lot for the Nishad party. Now we will sit together and make a decision. We won’t be doing any work now. Santosh Kumar Nishad said that the BJP did not reserve seats for us and our seats were snatched away. We have trained Sanjay Nishad, so he should also understand the importance of party workers.
In 2022, Nishad Party won the Majhwan Assembly seat. Vinod Kumar Bind contested the elections here and won. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP gave votes to Vinod Kumar Bind from Bhadohi, who won and became the MP. Thereafter, he had to resign as a member of the UP Assembly, leaving the Majhwan seat vacant and a by-election had to be held here. This time, the BJP has fielded a candidate from Majhwan in the by-elections. Suchismita Maurya is contesting elections here.
