Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the US and ahead of this, officials from Joe Biden’s administration met with Sikh leaders. The meeting reportedly discussed the plight of local Sikhs. During the meeting, the issue of the failed murder plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannu last year was also raised. The meeting was organized by the National Security Council and included White House and US intelligence officials.

The meeting was held two days before the meeting between President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, officials told the Sikh representatives that the US government was in active talks with India on the matter and was also investigating the assassination plot. Gurpatwant Pannu had dual citizenship – he sometimes lived in the United States and sometimes in Canada. The US government has also asked India to thoroughly investigate the matter. The meeting was held in the White House complex.

PM Modi leaves for the US today

Prime Minister Modi is going to the US to attend the Quad meeting and the UN General Assembly. He left this morning. He will attend the Quad meeting with the leaders of the US, India, Japan and Australia. This meeting can discuss countering the influence of China and Russia, in which India’s role is important.

US ensures safety of Sikh community

The US has expressed concern over the Sikh incident and is taking up the issue again with India. In the meeting, senior US officials assured the Sikh community that Washington is committed to protecting American citizens from acts of “international repression”.

The White House and the Indian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the meeting but insisted that the U.S. government was taking the Sikh community’s concerns seriously and taking concrete steps to protect them.
