The first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will be played on November 22. India’s young batsman Shubman Gill and regular captain Rohit Sharma will not be available for the first match. Gill is injured and Rohit is yet to travel to Australia after the birth of his second child. Due to the absence of these two, there is a big crisis in front of the Indian team. India do not have any professional openers for the first Test match.
Abhimanyu Easwaran is the opening contender
The Indian team has KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran starting the first Test match against Australia. Iswaran may have made a huge mark in domestic cricket, but he is yet to make his debut for India and his debut directly against Australian fast bowlers may not be too favorable for the Indian team. The 29-year-old scored 7674 runs in 101 first-class matches, including 27 centuries. Apart from this, he scored 3847 points in 88 Group A matches.
Rahul suffers elbow injury
On the other hand, KL Rahul last played a Test for India in 2023. Rahul suffered an elbow injury while playing in the Instra squad. Now, he’s no longer known for his old beats. He has scored 2981 runs in 53 Test matches for India so far, including 8 centuries and 15 half-centuries. Easwaran is likely to get an opening slot while Rahul is likely to be the number one.
