The Pakistan Cricket Board, or PCB, will host the International Cricket Federation Champions Trophy tournament from February 19 to March 9, 2025. Although the schedule for this important event has not yet been officially announced, preparations there are progressing very quickly. The biggest reason for this is that there is no certainty as to whether the Indian team will travel to Pakistan for this tournament. However, now the BCCI has clarified the entire situation through a reply to the ICC, in which the government guidelines were also mentioned.
Indian team will not travel to Pakistan to play the tournament
According to ESPN Cricinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the International Cricket Federation that they have received advice from the Indian government not to send a team to play against Pakistan. In this scenario, the ICC now has the option of hosting the tournament in a hybrid mode, similar to how it was done in the 2023 Asia Cup when India played in Sri Lanka. However, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in his statement a few days ago completely ruled out the possibility of hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in a hybrid model.
Indian team can play in UAE or Sri Lanka
After the Indian team decided not to go to Pakistan, the only option left is to organize the ICC Champions Trophy matches in a hybrid mode, where the Indian team can play in the UAE or Sri Lanka. In this case, the UAE seems to be the better choice as it is closer to both countries. The ICC announces the schedule when there are 100 days left in the game, but it currently seems difficult to announce the schedule on November 11, which is still 100 days away from the game.
