A new system has been introduced in India for toll collection. This system will work directly from the satellite. After the vehicle is installed with this system, it will neither have to stop at any toll gate nor pay any toll. People have many questions in their minds about this new system like how will money be deducted from it, will fastag be abolished after its introduction and what will happen to those whose house is on the highway… So let’s know the answers to all these questions.

For which vehicles is this system?

At present, this system has been started for commercial vehicles. After this, it can be started for private vehicles. Currently, it is being tested only on commercial vehicles.

Will Fastag be completely eliminated after this?

It will take some time for the fast tag to end. The hybrid system will continue even after the new system is started. However, it is not yet decided how many lanes will be of GNSS and how many of the old system.

What will happen if there is no money in someone’s account?

The rules regarding this are not clear yet but generally the toll dues can be recovered on PUC, fitness, insurance renewal.

What is the arrangement for those whose houses are on the highway?

For such people, there is a 20 km system, in which you can travel 20 km every day for free. If they drive more than 20 km on the highway, they will have to pay toll after 20 km.

What will that machine be like?

Right now not much information has been revealed about the machine, whether it will require internet or charging or not. However, the machine will fit inside the vehicle. All the people who will use the GNSS line will have to get this machine installed. If someone goes in the wrong lane, he will have to pay double the fare.

There will be two types of lanes for the vehicles which will have this system. Also, there is no information about the on-off of this device and many steps will have to be taken to prevent its misuse. Right now there is no clear information about under whose supervision this device will be installed. It is being told that it can cost up to Rs 4000 to install it.

How long will the validity of 20 km remain?

When a vehicle arrives on the highway, that will be the toll gate point and toll will be charged after running for the next 20 km. The validity of this 20 km will be for 24 hours. After this, toll will be charged per kilometer, which may vary according to the vehicle or highway.

What will happen if someone takes the car from this system without the system?

If any vehicle passes through the lane dedicated for this system without device registration, action can be taken against it and double toll tax will be collected from them. However, information about its misuse is not clear yet.

How will this GNSS system work?

This satellite system will be based on GPS. Toll tax will be collected through satellite with the help of GPS. It will use on-board units (OBU) installed in vehicles to track their movement. In a way, it will become active as soon as you enter the highway and toll will be decided on that basis.

Will there be toll plazas also?

Currently, the FasTag system implemented at toll plazas for tax collection works on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, which automatically collect toll. But in the GNSS based tolling system, there will be virtual tolls. That means you will not be able to see where the toll is and you will not have to stop at them.
