Will Delhi be filled again? Clouds will rain in the capital for 3 days, Meteorological Department issued alert of heavy rain tomorrow

The rain continues intermittently in Delhi. For the past several days, the country’s capital has been witnessing heavy and sometimes moderate rains. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for the next three days in Delhi, that is, heavy rains can be seen in the end of July and beginning of August. However, despite the rain, there is no sign of respite from the humid heat in Delhi and its adjoining areas.

The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain with thunder in Delhi today i.e. on 30th July. There is forecast of heavy rain tomorrow from 31st July to 1st August. After that a reduction in the intensity of rain may be seen. According to IMD, the maximum temperature of Delhi is likely to remain between 33 to 38 degrees Celsius this entire week and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26 to 30 degrees Celsius. Amid warnings of heavy rain in Delhi, speculations are being made that waterlogging may be seen again in the national capital.

What does the weather forecast say?

According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, Delhi is moving towards normal rainfall levels for July. However, there has not been much rain in the last three days. But between July 22 and 26, there was moderate monsoon rain, bringing Delhi close to the monthly rainfall level. These showers have been uneven and intermittent, yet more than 100 mm of rain has been recorded during this period. Base station Safdarjung has recorded a total of 203.2 mm rainfall between 01 and 29 July 2024, against the normal of 209.7 mm. At the same time, moderate to heavy rain is expected in the next few days this week.

The monsoon trough is moving towards the south from its normal position, due to which Delhi remains at a considerable distance to the left of the trough. The resulting winds at lower levels are humid easterlies, but are by no means favorable for today. Under the influence of a weather system over North Pakistan region, the trough is shifting north and coming closer to Delhi, but for the time being the trough will maintain distance till tomorrow. Therefore, there may be heavy rain tomorrow on 31st July.

Today i.e. on July 30, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal and Gangetic West Bengal, due to which the monsoon trough will re-organize over the Indo-Gangetic plains. At the same time, on July 31, the cyclonic circulation will become more organized and will move towards the land the next day. Monsoon will be active over the entire area of the trough, from North Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi on the western end to West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand on the eastern end.

The monsoon trough will pass through Delhi on July 31 and will remain close to it for the next two days. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Delhi and suburbs on July 31. Moderate and intermittent rain will continue on 01 and 02 August also. On August 03 and 04, the trough will shift southwards from its normal position and weather activities will become light. The oscillation of the trough and its northward flow will once again enhance weather activities between 05 and 07 August. This means that the month of July will end with rain and August will begin with monsoon rains in Delhi.
