Why was the eye drop ‘PresVu’, which claims to remove eyeglasses, banned?

The eye drops claiming to remove eyeglasses have been banned even before they could enter the Indian market. The company had claimed that the use of these eye drops can help in removing eyeglasses. India’s drug regulatory agency had also approved it, but now CDSCO has banned these eye drops claiming to cure myopia and hypermetropia until further notice.

Actually, Mumbai-based Entod Pharmaceuticals had claimed that they have developed an eye drop called PresVu for the treatment of myopia and hypermetropia. And its regular use can eliminate eye glasses. It was claimed that the eye drop can save anyone from wearing glasses.

ENTOD Pharmaceuticals had also received final approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) after the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) had earlier recommended the product. But taking seriously the unauthorized promotion of this eye drop Presvue (1.25% Pilocarpine w/v) by the pharmaceutical company, the regulator has suspended their permission till further orders.

That’s why eye drops were banned

Let us tell you that unauthorized promotion in the press and on social media had attracted the attention of millions of people who wear glasses. Due to this, the tension of the drug regulatory agency increased regarding the unsafe use of this eye drop and safety concern for the public. Because it has been approved only as a prescription drug, that is, it could be used only on the advice of a doctor. But it was promoted as if everyone could remove their glasses by using it. Prescription-based eye drops were to be available in pharmacies from the first week of October at a price of Rs 350.

Drop manufacturers made this claim

The drop manufacturers had stated that they have applied for a patent for this unique formulation and its manufacturing process. It is claimed that their formula not only eliminates the need for reading glasses, but also works as a lubricant for the eyes.
