Teachers Day 2024: There is a tradition of celebrating Teachers’ Day every year on 5 September in India. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice President and former President of India, scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna awardee. Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888.

On this special occasion of Teachers’ Day, we pay tribute to all those teachers who have given the right direction to our lives. Teachers are not only teachers of curriculum knowledge, but they are also guides of life lessons. Their hard work, dedication and art of teaching taught us how to move towards our dreams and make our place in the society.

This day is also special for those who are no longer in school or college, as they get a chance to say thank you to their old teachers.

History of Teachers Day

Teachers’ Day started being celebrated on 5 September, the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962, his students wanted permission to celebrate this day specially. Instead, Dr. Radhakrishnan suggested that this day be celebrated as Teachers’ Day, to appreciate the contribution of teachers to society. He said that “Teachers should be the wisest in the country. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954.
