The Allahabad High Court has issued notices to DGP Prashant Kumar and SSP Saharanpur and directed them to appear before the court on January 27 and provide clarifications in their personal affidavits. The court said the two police officers should explain why contempt of court should not be taken against them for disobeying court orders. The next hearing on the petition will be on January 27.

Justice Salil Kumar Rai issued the order on a contempt petition filed by Alka Sethi and others. On May 15, 2024, the court ordered the DGP to ensure registration of an FIR on the petitioner’s complaint and investigation by the SSP. No action was taken against the order and no FIR was registered and investigated by any police.

What’s going on?

In fact, it is said that this matter has something to do with the land. It turns out that Alka Sethi purchased a piece of land in Saharanpur but the local land mafia started occupying the land with the connivance of officials. He subsequently complained to the police, but no action was taken. Instead, the land mafia itself filed a case against him. The police also hurriedly submitted a charge sheet.

The High Court had earlier issued directions to conduct an inquiry

Thereafter, the victim approached the High Court challenging the police chargesheet. Taking into account the facts, the High Court quashed the charges and made strong comments on the nexus of the land mafia running in Saharanpur with officials and ordered the Saharanpur SSP to investigate the registered FIR and other allegations and complete the report, But the order did not take any action even after that.

Thereafter, the high court decided to issue notices to DGP Prashant Kumar and SSP Saharanpur while hearing the case again. Currently, the case will be heard on January 27.
