November 13, 2024: Actress Rupali Ganguly has taken legal action against stepdaughter Esha Verma, seeking Rs 50 crore in defamation damages. Ganguly’s lawyer Sana Raees Khan said the huge sum reflected the serious damage Esha’s “baseless accusations” had caused to Rupali’s personal and professional reputation. Khan explained in an interview that “this number represents the emotional, reputational and professional impact of false statements against Rupali.”
Esha Verma, the daughter of Rupali’s husband Ashwin Verma from a previous marriage, publicly accused Rupali of beating her mother and causing pain to her family. Esha’s social media posted details of the alleged incident, including claims that Rupali interfered in her parents’ marriage and got into a physical altercation. However, since receiving the defamation notice, Esha deleted her social media accounts and deleted the posts in question.
A legal notice issued by Ganguly’s legal team cited the trauma Rupali suffered as a result of the allegations, including humiliation on the sets and lost career opportunities. Initially, Rupali chose to remain silent, but she was forced to take action when Esha allegedly involved her 11-year-old son Rudransh in the matter.
The public feud stems from years of family turmoil, with Elsa blaming her father and stepmother for emotional distress. Esha, who now lives in the United States, has been outspoken about her father’s remarriage, which she claims caused a rift in her family.
