Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is visiting Beijing. His visit was considered important in many ways. This visit is based on the consensus reached between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Russia during the BRICS leaders’ meeting on October 24.

The purpose of this meeting is to completely resolve the dispute over the Line of Actual Control and restore bilateral relations. According to government sources, the dialogue is important following the recent agreement on the Line of Actual Control. On Wednesday, Doval will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for the first time in about five years.

The last meeting between representatives of the two countries was held in December 2019. After the Ladakh dispute in 2020, India-China relations became tense. Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also said that 75% of the dispute issues have been resolved and it is expected to be completely resolved soon.

Several rounds of talks have been held

The NSA’s visit comes as the two countries agreed to withdraw their troops from the Demchok and Depsang areas. According to reports, both sides have also launched coordinated patrols. In order to resolve this dispute, the military commanders of both sides have held 21 rounds of meetings, in addition to many rounds of diplomatic-level talks.

What is China’s comment on Doval’s visit to China?

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday that China is willing to work with India to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and push bilateral relations back on track as soon as possible. China also emphasized the need to respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, enhance mutual trust through dialogue and communication, and properly resolve differences with honesty and goodwill.

India has stated many times that returning to the situation in April 2020 would be the first step in resolving the problem. Apart from the G20, India’s importance in BRICS, SCO and the Quad has also forced China to retreat. It remains to be seen how much relations between the two countries improve after this dialogue.
