Bangladesh was separated from Pakistan in the seventies due to war. Now, after the Sheikh Hasina government has stepped down, the country is so focused on opposing India that it calls Pakistan a friend and talks about teaching New Delhi a lesson. Recently, Shahiduzzaman, a professor at Dhaka University, made similar remarks and said that Dhaka should sign a nuclear treaty with Islamabad. You know, can two countries really build nuclear weapons together? Or can nuclear power be shared?

The treaty prevented

There are many countries in the world that are very powerful but still do not have nuclear power. For example, Germany, South Korea, Japan. Despite having quite a lot of technology, they still keep a distance from making nuclear weapons. There is a treaty behind this, which guarantees them that if any country attacks them, then a friendly country with nuclear power will save them.

The name of the treaty is the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (APT). When the conflict between North Korea and South Korea broke out in the 1950s, the United States and the United Nations helped South Korea by intervening militarily. This assistance was provided under the treaty. South Korea does not have nuclear weapons yet, but it is certain that it will receive help from the United States if it is in danger.

Likewise, Germany is a member of the NTP. This treaty to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons is an attempt to create a balance between nuclear and non-nuclear states. According to this provision, only the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, China and France can have nuclear weapons. Let us tell you that these are the countries that conducted nuclear tests before the treaty was signed.

Many countries continue to raise objections to the treaty’s provisions.

His argument is that in this way some countries remain powerful while others become dependent on themselves. Trusting another country’s nuclear weapons is like trusting money in another house. This is why many countries withdrew from the NTP and acquired nuclear power. Just like North Korea was part of the treaty, but later it broke the treaty and built weapons. For this, the allies, including the United States, imposed many restrictions on it. Similarly, India distanced itself from the treaty from the beginning and acquired nuclear power. However, in this regard, he also had to face the dissatisfaction of other countries.

Now let’s talk about Pakistan. So it also refused to sign the treaty. Later, after India produced nuclear weapons, it also began to conduct nuclear weapons research in the country. The dangerous thing about Pakistan is that its nuclear policy is to use nuclear weapons first, that is, if it feels threatened, it can use nuclear weapons first. After the nuclear test, it was subject to many restrictions, but it continued to insist on producing weapons on the grounds of its own safety.

The IAEA monitors all the countries covered by the treaty. From time to time, it checks to see if countries are secretly making weapons.

Weapons continued to be produced in secret

From all this it seems that any country can become a nuclear power if it wants to and chooses to withdraw from the treaty. It is true. Almost all countries start working secretly and gaining strength without participating in the treaty. The agency can only monitor the countries within its scope. It cannot interfere with other countries until it finds evidence of nuclear testing. At that time, the country will gain nuclear power.

Israel is believed to have secretly built nuclear weapons. However, Israel has neither denied the allegations nor admitted that it has the power to do so. The allegations are also leveled at Iran and Libya. Both the United States and Israel accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons.

How powerful is the discussion in Bangladesh?

Dhaka has also signed the NTP. In this case, he cannot make nuclear weapons on his own unless he gets out of trouble. Withdrawing from the treaty itself is dangerous. Thereafter, a lot of economic trade restrictions may be imposed on it. In Bangladesh’s current situation, this will cause trouble for it. As a member of the treaty, it is also prohibited from accepting help from any country that is not a member of the NTP.

Here, since Pakistan has withdrawn from the treaty and has also built nuclear weapons, Dhaka cannot get its help even if it wants to. On the other hand, Pakistan itself is facing so many economic difficulties that it is unlikely to be willing to become a victim of international anger by helping Bangladesh.
