Why do Gaza still have Israeli forces? IDF cites kindergarten links

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a video that showed its personnel inside a tunnel system discovered under a kindergarten in Rafah, Gaza.

During the accurate operating activity, the Golani Brigade forces found a shaft in the premises of a former kindergarten which was located about 100 meters from another campus which was a civil school. The video shows two IDF personnel inside the tunnel, where they also find explosives. “This is just another example of how Hamas Ghazan exploits the civilian population,” a post on X.

The explosive-ragged underground passage extends to dozens of meters and is connected to a main Hamas route. Combat engineers of Yahlom unit examined the tunnel before demolishing.

The recently discovered tunnel is part of a network of tunnels that operate under Hamas Gaza, one reason Israel says that it is enough to continue its aggressive in Palestine.

Hamas had said that two years before the current conflict, it was said that it had established a network of more than 500 km tunnels, which is almost half the length of the New York Metro system. The tunnels have special sections to start military attacks, as well as logistics, storage facilities and transport routes, Roots Informed Hamas has said that it is using tunnels, among other places, to hide the hostage seized in the October 7 attack on Israel.

In October last year, a video featured Hamas leader Yahya Sinawar transferring his belongings to a tunnel in Gaza a few hours before the 7 October attack. The footage shows Sinavar and his wife and children moving goods, including a television, water, pillows and mattresses, who are reportedly in the tunnel in Khan Younis. According to the IDF, food, cash and documents were found in the underground premises, including toilets, rain and a kitchen.
