Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from Paris Olympics. Today she had to compete in the final for the gold medal, but before that Vinesh was disqualified in the 50 kg weight category for being overweight. Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh’s statement has come on this issue.
Sanjay Singh while talking to the agency said, ‘The Government of India had provided Vinesh with a personal coach, personal physio and personal nutritionist. All the people are with him in the sports village itself. She fought for two days and her weight was the same. But only his nutritionist will be able to answer how his weight suddenly increased at night.
‘Vinesh’s disqualification is a misfortune for the country’
WFI Chief Sanjay Singh further said, ‘Vinesh reached the finals after wrestling so well, but it is the misfortune of our country that she was disqualified due to being 100 grams overweight. WFI is looking after its legal side. PT Usha has reached Sports Village. We are considering further strategy.
Vinesh is very fit, taking rest
After being disqualified, when the Chief of Indian Wrestling Federation was questioned about Vinesh’s ill health, he said, ‘Vinesh had worked hard at night to lose weight. Therefore he had mild dehydration. But now she is very fit and taking rest.
Gold medal event was to be held today
Let us tell you that 29 year old Vinesh has been disqualified in 50 kg wrestling. When Vinesh’s weight increased a bit, she also tried to reduce it. The gold medal event was to be held today (7th August), but before that Vinesh’s weight was found to be too much. After Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics, she was told that her weight was not matching the 50 kg limit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also tweeted about Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification. He tweeted, ‘Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are the pride of India and an inspiration for every Indian. Today’s failure hurts. I wish I could express in words the despair I am feeling. Plus, I know you are the epitome of resilience. It has always been your nature to face challenges. Come back stronger! We are all praying for you.
