Maharashtra Mahayutty government cabinet expanded
The first cabinet expansion of the Devendra Fadnavis government took place in Maharashtra. A total of 39 leaders were sworn in as ministers in the Nagpur cabinet. This time, a maximum of 19 ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party took oath, 11 ministers from the Shiv Sena Shinde faction and 9 ministers from the Ajit Pawar faction of the National Congress Party. This time Mahayuti’s cabinet expansion has added many new faces and given up many old ministers.
The Bharatiya Janata Party won the most seats in the assembly elections and became the largest party. The BJP won 132 seats in the assembly, the nationalist Ajit Pawar faction won 41 seats and the Shiv Sena Shinde Group won 57 seats. After winning more seats in the elections, Devendra Fadnavis became the chief minister while Eknath Shinde became the deputy chief minister. Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar, who earlier served as deputy chief minister, remains as deputy chief minister.
What is special about the new cabinet is that many new faces have been given opportunities, and some experienced leaders have been dismissed as a result. Among them, Chagan Bhujbal and Dilip Vals Patil, leaders of the nationalist Ajit Pawar faction, were not included in the cabinet. On the other hand, Shiv Sena Shindit leader Deepak Kesarkar also missed out on a ministerial post. The BJP also succeeded Ravindra Chavan.
