Former chairman of Atlas Cycles, Salil Kapoor (70 years) allegedly committed suicide in his house in Lutyens Delhi on Tuesday. According to the police, initially it is suspected that Salil shot himself on the temple with his licensed revolver. All things will become clear after investigation. The incident happened around 1 pm. His manager found the body soaked in blood near the puja room. A suicide note has also been recovered from the spot, in which there is a mention of harassment. Police said that Salil Kapoor was at his bungalow on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road in Delhi on Tuesday. This is a three-storey bungalow. There is a temple built in it. At around 2 pm, his manager saw that Salil Kapoor was lying in a pool of blood near the temple on the ground floor. There was a bullet mark on his head. At 2.30 pm, the police control room was called and the Tughlaq Road police station reached the spot. Kapoor was immediately taken to AIIMS, where doctors declared him dead. The local police informed senior police officials. Forensic experts reached the spot and fingerprints were taken.

Salil accused four people of harassment

Police said that Kapoor’s licensed revolver was found at the scene. DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Mahala said that it is suspected that Kapoor shot himself on the temple. An alleged one-page suicide note has been recovered from the scene. In this, Kapoor has mentioned the financial burden on him and harassment by four people. Kapoor has written that he had taken a loan from four people and he was struggling financially to repay it. Those people (accused) have harassed me mentally and physically to repay the loan, the accused also used to threaten me over the phone, due to which he got fed up. However, the police has refused to reveal the names of the people (accused) citing investigation.

Information is being collected about the accused

Police say that we are investigating the case from all possible angles. Information is being collected about the four people mentioned in the suicide note so that they can be called for questioning. Sources say that Salil Kapoor was facing financial crisis and was heavily in debt. He had divorced his wife and his children also live separately.

Police said that Salil has two sons and a daughter. After separating from her husband, his wife lives in Dubai. Kapoor’s manager and his family lived with him. Forensic and crime teams have been called to investigate the crime scene.

Salil’s sister-in-law also committed suicide in this bungalow

Salil’s sister-in-law Natasha Kapoor also committed suicide in the same bungalow in January 2020. She had returned from a wedding in Kolkata. Natasha Kapoor’s body was found hanging from the fan in the room by her son. Natasha also left a suicide note. In this, she had urged the family members to take care of themselves. In the alleged suicide note, Natasha had said that she could not live anymore. Her husband Sanjay Kapoor was the joint president of Atlas Cycles. However, Natasha did not clarify why she took this step?

Fraud cases were registered against Salil

Salil was arrested in 2015 by the Economic Offences Wing (EWO) of Delhi Police from Uttarakhand in a fraud case of Rs 9 crore. Two separate cases were registered against him in 2014 at the Defence Colony police station in South Delhi. Both the cases were also investigated by the EOW. In one case, the complainant had alleged that Kapoor cheated him on the pretext of buying capital gain bonds. During the investigation, the police had also announced a reward of Rs 25,000.

In the first case, a person named Satinder Nath Maira had alleged that he had given Rs 13 crore to Salil’s family friend Prashant Kapoor for investment. When Salil was asked to return the money, he gave seven post-dated cheques, but all bounced. During the police investigation, Saket Court declared Salil a fugitive. At the same time, the second case against Salil started when a woman named Sunita Bansal filed a complaint and alleged that Salil had cheated her of Rs 4 crore.
