The name of ‘Bada Saraf Vyapari’ is coming to the fore in the suicide case of Saharanpur jeweler Saurabh Babbar and his wife Mona Babbar. It is being told that Saurabh had given crores of rupees deposited in the committee to this businessman. The businessman used to give him gold/silver or other jewellery in exchange for money, which Saurabh used to give to the committee members as a prize on lucky draw. But recently, the son of ‘Bada Saraf Vyapari’ fled to Dubai with all the money invested in the committee, due to which the pressure on Saurabh increased. He got into a debt of crores and troubled by the burden of this debt, he embraced death.

According to the information, Saurabh Babbar was running a jeweler’s shop named Shri Sai in Kishunpura area of Saharanpur district for 12 years. Along with this, he also ran a kitty gold committee. Saurabh was well behaved, so people trusted him. His shop was also running well. Initially, only a few people were associated with him, but gradually when he started giving committees, people’s trust in him increased. By doing this, about 1400 people joined his group (committee).

People told that Saurabh was running 6-7 committees. Each committee had 200 members, i.e. around 1400 members used to deposit money with Saurabh. Each committee member used to give him Rs 2000 per month. According to this, he used to get Rs 28 lakhs every month. This committee was for 20 months, meaning each person used to give him Rs 40,000 for 20 months. According to this, within 20 months, Saurabh had around Rs 5 crore 60 lakhs.

Saurabh had given this money to the ‘big goldsmith merchant’ so that he could make gold jewellery for him in exchange for the money and he would give those jewellery to his committee members.

Where did things go wrong and Saurabh was forced to commit suicide?

Allegedly, the son of the ‘big jeweler’ to whom Saurabh had given money fled to Dubai with all the money and Saurabh got into trouble. After this, Saurabh took money from many other people and started giving money to the debtors (from whom he had taken two thousand rupees every month). But he did not have enough income to return everyone’s money. Due to this, Saurabh was getting stressed. He was tired of paying interest to the debtors.

On the other hand, those people (who had formed the committees) were also coming to him for recovery. They were demanding their money, but Saurabh would either pay the interest or give them money, thus he kept paying the interest on the loan and got badly trapped in the quagmire of the Gold Kitty Committee.

Some? Committee Members It is also said that Saurabh Babbar used to have kitty parties in expensive hotels. He lived a luxurious life. He had also invested a large part of his money in the share market. But he suffered a huge loss in the share market and became a debtor. He had borrowed money from moneylenders at high interest rates for investment.

If people are to be believed, Saurabh had a debt of about 10 crores. However, Father Darshanlal says that They did not know anything about their son’s debt. According to Darshanlal- We did not believe that Saurabh would ever do this. He gave us a lifetime of sorrow. If we had known about the debt, we would have talked to him, explained to him, would not have let him take this step, but he never mentioned it.

According to Darshanlal, Saurabh went to his in-laws’ house on Friday night (9 August) with his wife Mona and two children. Then he left the children there and left for Haridwar with his wife. People came to know that he committed suicide by jumping into the Ganga in Haridwar. I had met him two days before this incident. He used to come home with his daughter-in-law, but it never seemed that he would take such a big step. If we had known about the loan or transaction, we would have sat and talked to him.

Disappointment on the faces of creditors

After Saurabh’s departure, the creditors are disappointed. They are worried about their money. There are many families who had given a large part of their earnings to Saurabh with trust. This amount had exceeded 7 crores and Saurabh had to repay a loan of about 10 crores. The families whose money was lost with Saurabh say that they have also died while living.

At present, the police is investigating the entire case. So far, the body of Saurabh’s wife Mona has not been found. The police say that the family members are not in a position to be questioned thoroughly. The facts and information that are gradually coming to light are being collected. If the family members give any written complaint, action will be taken accordingly.
