Moscow: Michael Travis Leake, an American citizen, was sentenced to 13 years in the Russian Penal Colony, reported Russia’s media RIA Novost. Leake, a US rock band manager, was detained on drug charges last year. He is also a former US soldier.
A court in Moscow had accused the musician of engaging in a narcotics business. Notably, Leake had pleaded guilty, reported Russian state media TASS. The US musician was sentenced to 13 years in jail at a time when diplomatic relations between the US and Russia were at an all-time low.

It was alleged that from January to June 2023 purchased narcotic drugs. As per prosecutors, Leake packaged the drugs for sale.
He then allegedly transferred the drugs to an accomplice, reported the US media house. leake and his accomplice reportedly made four attempts to sell the 40 grams of mephedrone.
The investigators of the case claimed that the US musician kept more than 1.6 grams of the narcotic substance at his home. he also kept tablets containing MDMA at his residence, as per the investigation. All these narcotics were confiscated. Leake’s accomplice was also sentenced in the Russian penal colony.
