In Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, a 19-year-old boy drowned while trying to cross a pond for a bet of Rs 10. The family was in chaos after the death of the elder. The police have started an investigation into the matter.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kamlesh Kharpuse said the incident took place at 11 am in Gorakhpur village in Deori police station area, about 130 km from the district headquarters.

Three friends from the village placed a bet of 10 rupees to cross the pond from one bank to the other. All three placed a bet of 10 rupees to see who could swim the fastest. Two youths swam across the pond, while the third youth died due to breathing difficulties.

According to the police, Bansilal Ahirwar, the father of the 19-year-old Harish Ahirwar, arrived at the Gorakhpur pond with his companions. Here, three friends bet 10 rupees each to cross the pond, and the three young men jumped into the pond. Two young men crossed the pond and reached the shore, but Harish Ahirwar was out of breath in the middle of the pond and drowned.

After the police were informed, Deori police station officer-in-charge Hariom Asthana rushed to the spot and with the help of divers, the youth was rescued from the pond and taken to a medical centre. Doctors declared the youth dead during investigation. Police have established a track and started investigating the matter.
