When Salman donated bone marrow
Salman donated his bone marrow in 2010 to save the life of a girl. He had registered with the Marrow Donor Registry India (MDRI) to donate bone marrow, if needed. Obviously, Salman’s name came into limelight for this special effort. In a 2010 report, Dr. Sunil Parekh, who was a board member of MDRI, had confirmed this news.
Doctor Parekh had said, ‘People suffering from diseases and I are very thankful to Salman Khan for coming forward for this cause. Four years ago, Salman had read about a little girl, Pooja, who needed a bone marrow transplant. He had asked his entire football team to come forward and donate marrow. Unfortunately, they all backed out at the last minute and only Salman and Arbaaz came and became the first donors.
Salman had said this on bone marrow donation
At that time, Salman had said on the problem of bone marrow donation in India, ‘We have only 5000 donors. Not only is there lack of awareness, but our attitude is also a problem. Save lives by donating marrow. It’s just like a blood test. I know some people are afraid of blood tests too, but by being a little brave you can make a big difference.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama in 2022, Sunil Shetty had mentioned this bone marrow donation of Salman. He had said, ‘Salman Khan had donated his bone marrow to someone years ago. This is done by those people who want to change the world and that is why God is very humble towards them. God is taking care of them. He is God’s favorite child.
