Rajesh Khanna has been one of the most popular actors in the film industry. There is hardly any famous actor with whom he has not worked or been friends. Rajesh and Kamal Haasan also used to be good friends. Kamal and Rajesh used to go to watch movies together. Because of this, Kamal was once scolded by Dimple Kapadia. Kamal Haasan himself has told about this.
Bollywood and South star Kamal Haasan told that once he went to a public theater to watch a movie with Rajesh Khanna. He got stuck there because of his fan following, and what happened after that was terrifying. Because of this, he became a victim of Dimple’s anger, but Rajesh kept smiling and enjoying the whole time.
The crowd got stunned on seeing Rajesh
In an interview to Rediff, Kamal said, “I was ready to call him Bade Bhaiya or Mr. Khanna, but not Kaka. We spent many hours together.” He recalled Rajesh’s Chennai days and mentioned an incident. Rajesh had a huge fan following in the South as well. Both of them had gone to watch a movie together in a common theater. But while they were watching the movie, Kamal realized that Rajesh had probably not gone to a public theater for years. And if the audience recognized him when the lights came on, it would be difficult to handle the situation.
But Rajesh thoroughly enjoyed the film and refused to leave until it was over. Kamal said, “That’s when I got nervous. This was Rajesh Khanna, the star of the millennium. If the audience had come to know that he was there, there would have been a stampede and I would have blood on my hands. But Mr. Khanna refused to listen and stayed till the end. After the show, what was expected happened. When the audience came to know that he was there, everything went haywire. I became Rajesh Khanna’s bodyguard and security guard and took him through the crowd. His shirt was torn, but he enjoyed a lot.

Kamal said that Rajesh had no problem with this, but his wife Dimple Kapadia was very angry. Kamal said, “When I took her to the public theater, she wanted to know what I was thinking. Anything could have happened. She had worked with Dimple in the film Sagar, directed by Ramesh Sippy.
Kamal Haasan and Dimple Kapadia’s friendship continued even after the actress separated from Rajesh Khanna in the 80s. But by that time Kamal’s relationship with Rajesh had soured. He said, “I never wanted to be a star. I observed him. Our friendship ended tragically at a party at his house where he lost his temper. But my friendship with Dimple is forever.”
