When Jammu and Kashmir became an integral part of India, Maharaja Hari Singh signed the instrument of merger.

On October 26, 1947, Jammu and Kashmir was annexed to India. On this day, Hari Singh, the then Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, signed the instrument of accession to the throne. Thereafter, Maharaja Hari Singh sought help from the Indian Army to fight the Pakistan-backed forces in Kashmir.

Lord Mountbatten, the then Governor-General of India, accepted the merger on October 27, 1947, the day after Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession. Only then did Jammu and Kashmir become an integral part of India in the constitution.

Pakistan-backed tribes attack Kashmir
In the early hours of October 24, 1947, thousands of tribals attacked Kashmir. It is said that there are also Pakistani soldiers disguised as tribals. In this situation, King Hari Singh sought help from India. But until then, Indian troops cannot help Kashmir as Jammu and Kashmir has not become a part of India.

Pakistan pays close attention to situation in Kashmir
After independence, Pakistan separated from India and became an independent country. At that time Muhammad Ali Jinnah set his sights on Kashmir. He believes that Kashmir is a Muslim-majority region and therefore Pakistan should have rights over the region. This is why he was attacked by tribals in Jammu and Kashmir.

Hari Singh seeks help from India after tribal attack
After the tribal attack, Maharaja Hari Singh set out from Srinagar for Jammu at 2 o’clock in the night of October 25. He has since sent out a message that he is ready to sign the Instrument of Accession with India. On October 26, he signed the instrument of accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India.

Post-merger Indian Army has reached Kashmir
After that, on October 27, the Indian army marched into Kashmir for the first time and landed at Srinagar Airport by plane. With this merger, the Indian Army took over command of Jammu and Kashmir. Indian troops arrived in Srinagar on October 27. He liberated Kashmir from the invaders.
