When senior Bollywood actress Dimple Kapadia’s first film ‘Bobby’ (1973) was released, she was only 16 years old. A year before the release of this film, she had married Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna, who was then 30 years old. Dimple, who had become a star since her debut film, did not do films for years after ‘Bobby’ and at the age of 17, she had also become the mother of Twinkle Khanna.
A few years ago, Dimple had said that she was very ‘naive’ when she fell in love with Rajesh Khanna. She was so ‘filmi’ that she thought Rajesh Khanna was going to sing ‘Mere Sapno Ki Rani’ for her in the mountains.

A few years ago, while speaking at an event of Ladies Organization of FICCI, Dimple had said, ‘Since I was a filmy girl, I thought that Rajesh Khanna would sing ‘Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu’ for me. He will take me to the mountains and sing songs. Dimple laughingly said that when she met Rajesh Khanna, she was very young and was very much influenced by films.
Dimple had said, ‘I swear I am not lying, because I was so young. And films also had such an impact on me. So when we reached the mountains and there was no singing and no wind, my condition worsened. Because I really believed in all these things. I mean, how stupid can someone else be? But I was.
In the same conversation, when Dimple was asked what was her best role in life, she said, ‘Being Mrs. Rajesh Khanna was the best role of my life. This was my best role. Dimple and Rajesh lived together for 8 years before separating from each other. They had two daughters- Twinkle and Rinke Khanna. Although both of them never got divorced.

In the same chat, Dimple also told her love story with Rajesh Khanna and said that they met her just a few days after signing ‘Bobby’. When she was 13 years old, she was offered ‘Bobby’. There was an age difference of 15 years between him and Rajesh Khanna. Dimple had told that after she had signed Raj Kapoor’s film, she and other celebrities were called to Ahmedabad for a function.
Rajesh was also on the same flight and their seats were together. Dimple told, ‘So he was sitting next to me. I told him very cleverly, ‘There will be a lot of crowd there, there will be a crowd, will you hold my hand, right?’ He said- ‘Yes, of course.’ I said ‘Forever?’… I was really very filmy and what happened after that is history.
