What will happen if Khalistan separatist Ash Dara is extradited? India to talk to Canada

Terrorist Arshi Dara

The Indian government will hold talks with the Canadian government over the extradition of Arsh Singh Gill, also known as Arsh Dara, the de facto leader of the Khalistan Tigers. Canadian police arrested Dara late last month. The Indian government declared Dara a terrorist in 2023. In July 2023, India requested the Canadian government to arrest him.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Thursday said that in view of the recent arrests, our agency will continue to process the extradition request.

He said that given Ash Dara’s criminal record in India and his involvement in similar illegal activities in Canada, he is expected to be extradited or deported to face justice in India.

Canadian police arrested him last month

Jaiswal said that since November 10, they have seen news circulating in the media about Canada’s arrest of convicted criminal Ash Singh Gill, alias the real leader of the Khalistan Tiger Force. He said the arrest was widely reported in Canada’s print and visual media. We understand that the matter has been listed for hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice.

Jaiswal said that Ash Dara has been declared guilty of more than 50 cases of murder, extortion, attempted murder and terrorist activities, including terrorist financing cases. In May 2022, he received a red corner notice against him.

India has declared him a terrorist in 2023

A spokesman for the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that he was designated as an individual terrorist by India in 2023. In July 2023, the Indian government requested the Canadian government to arrest him.

Jaiswal said India has provided more information to Canadian authorities in the case. Jaiswal said a separate request was also sent to Canada under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) to confirm the suspected residential address of Arsh Dalla, his financial transactions, movable and immovable properties in India , mobile phone number and other detailed information. All this information was provided to Canadian authorities in January 2023. He said that in December 2023, the Canadian Department of Justice had requested more information about the case. The answers to these questions were issued in March this year.
