Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav expressed concern over the financial pressure on digital and traditional media on the occasion of National Press Day on Saturday. Fair compensation of news publishers for their content is one of the biggest challenges facing the news media today, the Union Minister said.
Financial losses are occurring
Vaishnav said that today most of the news is received through digital media. As a result, traditional media (radio, television, newspapers, magazines) are suffering financially. Vaishnav said traditional media need to be fairly compensated for the content they create.
The matter has been referred to the government
News publishers (traditional and digital) have repeatedly raised concerns with the Indian government about the imbalance in bargaining between big tech companies and news publishers.
People enter digital media
The Union Minister said, As we have seen, news consumption is rapidly shifting from traditional media to digital media. As a result, traditional media suffered financial losses from this change.
Need to pay attention to this
Building a team of journalists, training them, creating editorial processes, ways to check the authenticity of news, and investing in responsible content are all huge investments in time and money. They are becoming irrelevant. This needs attention.
Need fair compensation
At the same time, the minister said traditional media need to be properly compensated for their efforts in creating news content. The federal minister says the challenge of fair pay is affecting our media and journalism. This needs to change. It should be noted.
