There has been a furore over the fact that the ghee from the world-famous Tirupati Balaji temple in Andhra Pradesh contained fish oil and animal fat. The Andhra Pradesh government has claimed that adulteration was found in the ghee used to make laddus. This adulteration was due to the ghee contract awarded by the previous government. In response, the temple committee Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam said that the blacklisted suppliers of adulterated ghee were awarded the contract during the previous Jagan Mohan government.

The central government has asked the Andhra Pradesh government to provide a report on the allegations and assured to take action after investigation. But after this news came to light, on one hand, Sanatanis across the country were angry. Protests also took place in some cities like Bhopal. The Supreme Court is filing an application in the High Court. On the other hand, political charges and counter charges are also going on. BJP leaders are demanding death penalty for the criminals. The Congress has raised a question to Chief Minister Naidu, asking why the Chief Minister did not disclose the matter for three months.

In this case, the investigative report may be wrong—

– If the sample is from milk from a very weak cow
– If milk samples are collected immediately from calving cows
– If milk from other animals is mixed with cow’s milk
– If more sesame and oil seeds are added to the cow’s milk
– If the cow is sick or any chemical is given to the cow

Jagan Mohan Reddy calls the allegations baseless

Congress has also demanded a CBI probe. So Jagan Mohan Reddy said Chandrababu Naidu was making baseless allegations to cover up the failure of 100 days. In fact, as soon as there was a change in the Andhra Pradesh government on June 12, samples of ghee used in offerings at the Tirupati temple were tested. The inquiry report was ready on June 23, but the truth came out only in September, 100 days into the Naidu government. In the report that came out, what was found in the ghee used to make laddus indicated that besides oilseeds and vegetables, ghee could have contained fish oil and animal fats. The investigation was conducted at the Centre for Analysis and Learning of Animal Husbandry and Food or CALF laboratory of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

The report talks about fish oil, animal fat and lard.

The report states that the ghee used in these laddus is adulterated and may also contain fish oil, animal fat and lard. Animal fat refers to the fat present in the body of animals. And it is also adulterated with lard. Lard means animal fat and in the same report it is mentioned that this ghee may also contain fish oil. However, the report also writes that due to certain circumstances, animal fat and its traces can reach the cow ghee and false positive results may appear in the test.

Ghee supply company cleared

The Karnataka Milk Federation, which has been supplying pure ghee, clarified that it has been supplying ghee since July. The name of the alleged supplier in this case is AR Dairy Products Limited. The company said it is ready for investigation. Four truckloads of ghee were delivered without any complaints. The fifth truck was stopped. The temple administration said that punitive action has now been taken against the company and it has been blacklisted.

A small boat floats on the water to supply ghee to the temple. The former executive officer of TTD claimed that the contract had been given to the lowest bidder. However, officials of the old temple administration claimed that 550 desi cows were reared in the trust factory for supplying pure desi ghee. Not only that, there was a system to check the ghee entering the temple. TTD checked the quality of ghee with the help of CFTRI laboratory in Mysuru.
