BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay and TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee clashed over the Waqf Amendment Bill at the JPC meeting. Both men exchanged insults. Kalyan Banerjee was injured in the incident. Kalyana Banerjee said that there was an argument between Nasir Hussain (MP) and Abhijit Gangopadhyay that day. Abhijit shouts loudly. When I asked, they started abusing me. When I reacted, they said they were going to hit me. He left his chair and came to me. Kalyan Banerjee said the chairman asked me to be gentle, so I was angry. I dropped the bottle on the table. As blood started to flow from my hand, I let go of the bottle and it rolled away. I said that was not my intention. I said sorry four times.

What did the committee chairman say?

Reacting to the incident, Commission Chairman Jagdambika Pal condemned Kalyan Banerjee’s behavior. He said God should give him wisdom. He said this was an unprecedented event… He had exceeded all boundaries, exceeded all decorum… He had been expelled from the next meeting of the committee.

Opposition leaders claimed that Pal had violated procedures and rules by making a public statement about the incident. However, Pal denied the opposition’s accusations, saying that he had not broken any rules and only mentioned the violence of one of his members.
