The weather system originating from the remnants of cyclonic storm Yagi has now developed into a low pressure area and is active over Jharkhand. It is expected to move rapidly towards the northwest. Due to this, several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive good rains.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on September 17. IMD has issued an orange alert in this regard. Odisha is also likely to see heavy rains. Apart from this, a yellow alert for rainfall has been issued in Uttarakhand, Bihar and West Madhya Pradesh.

According to private weather forecaster Skymet, heavy rain is likely to occur in West Bengal, Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh along the Ganges today. One or two heavy spells of light to moderate rain are likely over southern Bihar, northern Chhattisgarh, northeastern Madhya Pradesh and southeastern Uttar Pradesh.

Light to moderate rain is likely in West Bengal, Sikkim, northeast India, Bihar, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka and Kerala below the Himalayas. Light rain is likely in Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
