Addressing the Indian community in New York, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that although India accounts for 17% of the world’s population, it accounts for only 4% of global carbon emissions. He says we have no role in destroying the world. The Prime Minister said that compared with other countries in the world, we can only support our growth by burning carbon fuels, but we have chosen the path of green transformation. Our values of loving nature guide us, so we are investing in solar, wind, hydro, green hydrogen and nuclear power.
Prime Minister Modi said that India is the first G20 country to achieve the Paris climate goals and has increased its installed solar capacity more than 30 times since 2014. We are committed to making every house across the country a solar home and to that end we have launched Rooftop Mission. Today, our railway stations and airports are being lit with solar energy, and India has started working towards energy-efficient lighting from homes to roads. India is creating a lot of green jobs.
Prime Minister Modi said that India in the 21st century is moving forward on the basis of education, skills, research and innovation.
