Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday lashed out at the BJP over the Manusmriti issue on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. During the debate in the Lok Sabha, he said we believe in the Constitution, the BJP’s book is Manusmriti and this fight is between the Constitution and Manusmriti. Holding the Constitution in one hand and the Manusmriti in the other, he fiercely targeted the BJP.
Rahul Gandhi also referred to Savarkar’s statement in which he said there was nothing Indian in the Constitution and took a dig at the BJP, saying the ruling party’s talk of protecting the Constitution was a “mockery” of Savarkar.

The Congress leader said Savarkar, who is considered an ideologue of the BJP and RSS, had said that there was nothing Indian in the Constitution and that he believed the Hindu religious text “Manusmriti” was better than the Constitution.

There is a struggle between Constitution and Manusmriti
Rahul Gandhi said the Constitution is a document of modern India but it could not have been written without ancient India and its ideas. Rahul Gandhi said Savarkar had said there was nothing Indian in the Constitution and described the Manusriti as the “most revered” scripture for Hindus after the Vedas .
The Congress Party and the Indian Union are the protectors of the Constitution.

The Opposition leader told the BJP, “It is good that you say you are protecting the Constitution, but I want to ask you whether you stick to your leader’s words? Because when you talk about protecting the Constitution, you are insulting Savarkar, mocking him ”
Rahul’s attack on farmers
He said that a war was going on in India and narrated the story of “Eklavya” who sacrificed his thumb to pay homage to Guru Dronacharya.
He said, “When you handed Dharavi to Adani, you chopped off the thumb of the small and medium enterprises there… You fired tear gas on the farmers outside Delhi who were demanding fair prices… You chopped off his thumb Thumbs up.” The Congress leader also talked about caste census and supported removal of 50% reservation limit.
