Supreme Court to hold hearing on Delhi pollution

The situation remains dire due to pollution in Delhi, the country’s capital. Due to the increasing pollution, the Supreme Court imposed Group 4. The Supreme Court took up the issue of pollution on Friday. During this period, the court stated that it was not satisfied with the reply of the Delhi government. Hence, the Supreme Court reprimanded the Delhi government lawyers. The next hearing in the case will be held on November 25.

The Supreme Court said we are not satisfied with the Delhi government’s affidavit. The Supreme Court issued an important guideline while hearing a petition regarding air pollution in the National Capital Region of Delhi.

Checkpoints should be set up at 113 points

Taking a stern stance on the rising pollution in Delhi, the court said checkpoints should be set up immediately at all 113 entry points of Delhi. The court said there was sustained negligence at the point of entry. Checkpoint staff should be ordered to ensure that trucks enter Delhi as per Group 4 rules.

The Supreme Court said that out of the 113 entry points, 13 major entry points are monitored to ensure compliance with Sections A and B of GRAP Phase 4. The Supreme Court said that around 100 entry points were unmanned and no one was checking the entry of trucks.

The lawyer will find out whether the rules of GRAP-4 have been followed.

The Supreme Court said that despite the order passed by the CAQM, the Delhi government and police have not complied with the provisions of the fourth phase of GRAP. The Supreme Court observed that CCTV cameras were installed at 13 entry points and directed that the CCTV footage be provided to the amicus curiae in the case as soon as possible. Thirteen lawyers from the Bar Association will visit various entry points and find out whether they comply with GRAP-4 rules.
