Lok Sabha Speaker to meet members of joint parliamentary committee on waqf
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will meet members of the joint parliamentary committee set up under the Waqf Bill on November 5. The Speaker has given 1.30 pm time to meet and hear the speeches of the opposition members of the committee. Opposition MPs included in the committee today wrote to Speaker Om Birla complaining about Religious Funds Amendment Committee Chairman Jagdambika Pal and requested a meeting with the Speaker.
In a letter to the Speaker, the opposition members accused committee chairman Jagdambikar Pal of taking unilateral decisions and hinted at breaking away from the committee. Through this letter, the opposition members in the joint parliamentary committee examining the Religious Endowments (Amendment) Bill expressed their displeasure. Through the letter, he accused Speaker Jagdambikar Pal of taking unilateral decisions and ignoring parliamentary procedures.
Opposition MPs ignored
In a letter to the Speaker, opposition MPs claimed their views were not heard during the committee proceedings. The letter also claimed that committee chairman Pal decided the dates for committee meetings without any consent. Furthermore, unilateral decisions are taken when deciding who should be called before the committee. The letter from opposition MPs argued that the committee should not be viewed as just a ventilation chamber. The letter also mentioned that if we continued to be ignored we might be forced to leave the committee.
Today, representatives of a number of Muslim organizations, including Jamiat Ulema Islamiyah, appeared before the committee to express their views on the bill. According to the information received, the Jamaat-e-Islami was opposed to many provisions of the amendment.
Who has supported it?
The Muslim Women’s Intellectual Forum, the World Peace Council and many other groups supported the amendments. At the conference, the Muslim Women Intellectual Forum justified the waqf amendment. He said the waqf does not do any social welfare work. The forum said waqfs should state what welfare work has been done so far for women, orphans and children? During today’s meeting, there was a demand for the formation of a separate Shia waqf committee at the national level.
Joint parliamentary committee meets
A parliamentary joint committee has convened a meeting on waqf issues on Tuesday. The committee meeting will be attended by personnel from the All India Advocacy Council under Hari Borkar and Anveshak organization under Gaurav Aggarwal.

According to sources, renowned lawyer Harish Salve will represent the Dawoodi Bohra community before the committee meeting on Tuesday.
