There are still about two months to go before the first winter session of Parliament after the Lok Sabha elections, but there are already signs that the session could be filled with political heat. Issues such as the Waqf Bill and One Nation One Election are on the government’s agenda for the upcoming Parliament session and beyond. The Waqf Bill could be tabled in the upcoming Parliament session.

Home Minister Amit Shah held a press conference on the completion of the first 100 days of the Modi government 3.0, enumerated the achievements and hinted at the upcoming agenda. Let us know what the government has on its agenda for the upcoming parliament session and beyond?

Religious and Community Organizations Act

The government introduced two bills to amend the Waqf Act during the monsoon session of Parliament. While the Opposition parties have launched opposition to it, the NDA voters have also demanded that it be sent to the Standing Committee for detailed discussion. After being introduced in the Lok Sabha, the bill was sent to the JPC. The JPC was formed under the leadership of Jagdambika Pal for this purpose. During the marathon meeting of the JPC, Amit Shah said that the bill will be introduced in the upcoming session. “The Waqf (Amendment) Bill deals with the management and protection of Waqf properties. The bill will be passed in Parliament in the coming days. The bill will also prevent misuse of Waqf properties,” he said at a press conference.

Caste count in census

The issue of caste census is also a hot topic in the country’s political arena. In Bihar, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav has called conducting a caste census his achievement and is talking about forcing the central government to conduct a caste census, thereby cornering the BJP. Meanwhile, in Haryana, the Congress has promised a caste census in its manifesto. From Anupriya Patel’s Apna Dal (S) to Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), everyone has openly supported a caste census. The Sangh has also given the green light for it.

One country, one election

Regarding the One Nation One Election, the government has formed a committee headed by former President Ramnath Kovind. The Kovind Committee has submitted its report to the government. The Modi Cabinet has also approved the report of the Kovind Committee. Home Minister Amit Shah has also stated that the government plans to implement the “One Nation One Election” system during his term. Prime Minister Modi himself emphasized “One Nation One Election” when he addressed the nation on the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day.
