Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat created history by reaching the final of women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling in the Paris Olympics. For the first time an Indian wrestler had reached the finals. Vinesh was expected to win gold in the finals, but before that, something unexpected happened. Vinesh was disqualified on the day of the final match due to being 100 grams overweight.
Vinesh Phogat appealed against this decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and demanded that she be given the combined silver medal. However, CAS had rejected the appeal of star wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh could not win the medal, but she was welcomed like a champion upon returning home. Vinesh returned home from Paris on 17 August. Vinesh has gone to her native village Balali from Delhi. He was given a warm welcome while going to Balali.

Somveer wrote on his X account, ‘Vinesh Phogat has not received any money from the following institutions, businessmen, companies and parties. You all are our well wishers, please do not spread false news. This will definitely cause harm to us. Social values will also be harmed. This is just a means to get cheap popularity.
4 crores from Haryana Government
Haryana government had already said that Vinesh Phogat will be welcomed and felicitated like a medalist. Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini had said that all the honours, rewards and facilities that the government gives to the Olympic silver medalist will also be given to Vinesh Phogat with gratitude. According to the sports policy of the Haryana government, a silver medalist gets Rs 4 crore, which means Vinesh also has to get this amount.
