The hearing of Vinesh Phogat case in Paris Olympics 2024 was completed on 9 August (Friday). Now the whole country is waiting for the decision on this. The decision in the case was earlier expected to come on August 10, but now the timeline for the decision has been extended. Now whether Vinesh will get silver or not… the decision on this will come on August 11 by 9.30 Indian time.

Earlier CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) had given time till 9.30 pm Indian time on August 10 to give its decision. Dr. Annabelle Bennett AC SC will give the verdict in this case. Usually the ad-hoc panel is given 24 hours to give its decision. But now the date of decision has been extended again.

Vinesh on Wednesday appealed to the CAS against her disqualification from the Olympic final and demanded that she be awarded the combined silver medal. An ad hoc Division of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) was set up here to resolve any disputes arising during the 10-day period before the Olympic Games or the Opening Ceremony.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is an independent body created for sports around the world. Its job is to settle all legal disputes related to sports. The international body established in 1984 works to settle sports-related disputes through arbitration. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its courts are located in New York City, Sydney and Lausanne. Temporary courts are also set up in current Olympic host cities.

Let us tell you that all the parties were given an opportunity to file their detailed legal arguments before the hearing and then make oral arguments. The Sole Arbitrator indicated that the operational part of the order is expected soon, after which the detailed order and reasons will be put forward. IOA President Dr PT Usha thanked senior advocates Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania as well as the sports legal team for helping in presenting the arguments on behalf of the IOA.

These arguments given by Vinesh

1. Vinesh argued that she did not commit any fraud.

2. His weight gain was due to the body’s natural recovery process.

3. It was argued on behalf of Vinesh that taking care of one’s body is the fundamental right of an athlete.

4. It was also argued on behalf of Vinesh that her body weight was less than the prescribed limit on the first day of the competition. The weight increased only due to recovery and is not a case of cheating. It is their fundamental right to provide their body with the necessary nutrients to be healthy.
