A shocking case took place in Papadahandi, Navrangpur, Odisha. Here, due to religious conversion, the body had no place to bury it for about 32 hours. The villagers did not allow the body to be buried in the crematorium, so Additional Tejesildar and the police had to intervene in the matter. It is understood that Domu Jani of Pandikot village converted from Hinduism to Christianity about two years ago.
Now, Domu Jani passed away yesterday morning. Because of the religious conversion, the family was worried about where to bury the body. When the family asked the villagers to give them a place in the village cemetery, they refused to allow them. No one even came forward to carry the body.
Other Tejesildars and police officers also reached the spot and tried to convince the villagers, but the villagers did not agree. After a long debate, the villagers agreed. Additional Tehsildar fixed a place.
When no one came forward to put a shoulder to the body, some local reporters stepped forward to carry the body. After seeing the reporter’s report, other villagers also came forward, and the body was finally buried 32 hours after death.
Another Teshilda spoke on the matter and said: “We received information that the villagers refused to bury the body of the deceased and did not provide a place to bury the body because he converted to Christianity a few days ago.” After learning about this, We spoke to the villagers and eventually we provided the family with a government site and the body was buried on government land.
