Ramban, September 23: Vehicular traffic resumed on Monday after being suspended on Sunday night.

Traffic officials overseeing Ramban traffic regulations said that after the NHAI contractor firm completed the scheduled girder work on the Ramsu viaduct, the movement of light motor vehicles (LMVs) and passenger vehicles between Nashri and Banihal sections (including stranded trucks) are allowed to proceed to their respective destinations under the jurisdiction of Ramban County.

Normal traffic resumed on the national highway after clearing stranded vehicles between Nashri and Banihal, they said.

However, trucks and oil tankers stranded in Udhampur were allowed to sail towards Kashmir on Monday evening.

Earlier, the transport department said vehicular traffic was suspended due to the lifting of girders on a viaduct of a four-lane project in the Ramsu area of Ramban County. For this purpose, traffic on both sides was suspended on Sunday starting from Qazigund in Kashmir after 3 pm and from Udhampur on the Jammu National Highway in Srinagar after 5 pm.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir transport department on Tuesday issued fresh advisories, saying that private vehicles and buses will be allowed to ply on both sides of NH-44 provided the weather is clear and road conditions are good.

“Traffic flow remains slow as nomadic families carry out their seasonal migration with their livestock on National Highway 44,” officials said.

They advised commuters and vehicle operators to observe lane discipline while traveling on National Highway 44, especially between Nashri and Banihal areas.
