Uttarakhand witnesses heavy rains, four people dead, 478 roads closed after landslides

Continuous rain is continuing in many areas of Uttarakhand, due to which four people have died. Especially in Kumaon region, due to heavy rains, people have lost their lives, while two others have also gone missing. At the same time, 478 roads including national highways have been blocked due to landslides at different places.

According to a news agency report, the State Emergency Operations Centre said that during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Saturday, Haldwani in the Kumaon region received 337 mm of rain, Nainital 248 mm, Champawat 180 mm, Chorgalia 149 mm and Rudrapur 127 mm.

On Friday, a woman identified as Devaki Upadhyay (75) died after being trapped under the debris when a portion of a residential building collapsed due to heavy rains near the Buddha temple in Gankot village. In another incident, a 22-year-old youth named Vipin Kumar died in a landslide in Gankot, Pithoragarh.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), a 45-year-old tourist from Jalandhar in Punjab died due to lack of oxygen while visiting Jyolingkang village in Dharchula in Pithoragarh district.

Several people died in different accidents

A woman lost her life when the roof of a cowshed collapsed due to heavy rains in Dhorja village of Lohaghat. The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Madhavi Devi. The second incident took place in Matiyani village of Lohaghat where a woman died due to landslide. The deceased woman has been identified as 60-year-old Shanti Devi. A person named Jagdish Singh has gone missing in the incident.

38-year-old Gurnam Singh, who was cutting fodder in his field in Kondha Ashraf village of Udham Singh Nagar district, went missing after the water level of the nearby Kailash river suddenly increased. His body has not been found yet. At the same time, 500 people have been evacuated after flood waters inundated a village.
