The mountainous region of Uttarakhand has been hit by a natural disaster, with horrific scenes of landslides at many places and overflowing rivers and drains at many places due to incessant rainfall. In some places, flooding on roads has blocked people’s way and in some places, the crisis has caused severe loss of life.

A gypsy was swept away in the river at Ramnagar in Corbett. Landslides were reported in Tehri, Champawat, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. The highway was blocked in Almora after incessant rains. The Ganga also rose in Rishikesh, while the Gomti and Saryu rivers swelled in Bageshwar.

In fact, most of the stormwater drains in Ramnagar and surrounding areas flow through the highway and people are definitely relieved now that the light rains have stopped, but the coming period is likely to be more dreadful as the weather has not completely calmed down yet.

Pithoragarh: A massive landslide has occurred near Chaitalkot on the Dharchula-Tawaghat National Highway in Pithoragarh after heavy rains. A large portion of the mountain has collapsed and given way. Live videos of this horrific landslide have also surfaced. The road has been completely closed and impassable following the landslide. Due to the bad weather, the hardships faced by people have increased. A total of 30 roads have been closed in Pithoragarh, including the National Highway.

The situation was similar in Almora. Two national highways here were closed after two days of heavy rain. Meanwhile, heavy rains in Lamgada area of ​​the district caused severe damage to the Government Girls College. The college building was badly damaged due to the collapse of its walls.

Tehri-Bageshwar river overflows

Tehri district has also received heavy rains in the past three days. Bhilangana, Balganga run through Tehri. All drains including the Nelchami and Bhagirathi rivers are gushing with water. Photos of landslides have emerged at many places. Roads in Gangsali are littered with debris. Dozens of villages are completely cut off from major markets including the district headquarters.

Even in Bageshwar in the state, life seemed disrupted due to heavy rains. Shop owners claimed to have suffered losses worth lakhs of dollars due to rainwater entering their shops. The Sayu and Gomti rivers in Bageshwar were surging. Schools were closed due to two consecutive days of rain. More than 30 villages lost contact with the command post due to the rains. In Bageshwar, Kapkot district was the worst damaged with debris on more than 10 roads affecting traffic.

CM holds review meeting

Rainfall is becoming a problem in many parts across the state. The rivers are flowing violently. A safety advisory is being issued for the Rishikesh Ghats. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who convened a meeting to discuss the heavy rains in the state and the damage caused, reviewed the situation. In Uttarakhand, the meteorological department has issued a red alert for rainfall in some areas. In this situation, it is clear that the people of Uttarakhand are not seeing any relief from this natural disaster.
