US takes tough action against Iran, bans Atlantic shipments of Iranian oil based in India

Washington: The United States has taken tough measures against Iran and banned its Atlantic Navigation OPC Private Limited in India. The United States imposed the ban on Thursday on charges of trading in Iranian oil and petrochemicals. The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on four entities and three vessels involved in Iran’s oil and petrochemical operations, which generate billions of dollars in revenue for the regime, Iran’s Finance Ministry said.

“Iran uses ships, companies and facilities to support the development of its nuclear program, proliferation of weapons systems and its allies,” said Bradley T. Smith, acting undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence at the U.S. Department of Foreign Affairs. Sanctions were imposed on four entities involved in the Iranian oil trade and six vessels were listed as prohibited assets.

Iran business linked to terrorism

The United States has alleged that Iran’s oil operations are linked to suspected terrorist activities. The U.S. Department of Energy said Iran’s oil exports were driven by an illegal transportation network spanning multiple jurisdictions that used obfuscation and deception to receive and transport Iranian oil and then sell it to Asian buyers. The Ministry of External Affairs said that Atlantic Shipping OPC Private Limited, an India-based company, is involved in the transportation of Iranian oil as the ISM manager of the Vigor vessel.
