Recently, the Indian Navy’s MQ-9B Predator drone suffered a controlled landing in the waters near Chennai. Now, General Atomics will provide a new drone to replace it. So that the Navy’s mission can continue to be completed. According to the agreement with the Indian Navy, the crashed drone must be replaced as soon as possible.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the High Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft (HALE-RPA) was on a routine surveillance flight from INS Rajali, a naval base at Arakkonam near Chennai. Due to some technical issues, the flight could not be reset. The drone was controlled to land at a safe location at sea. This is called a controlled landing.

Drones have to make a fixed number of flights every month. This drone was on one such flight. The Indian Navy has ordered these drones under an emergency contract with the US in 2020. A detailed report has been sought from the OEM. India plans to buy 31 more similar drones. This will complete a more dangerous mission. We will also monitor the seas and borders.
