The announcement came a day before the Quad leaders’ summit in the United States, when a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers formed the “Quad Caucus” in the U.S. Congress on Friday. U.S. President Joe Biden invited the leaders of Australia, India and Japan to his official residence in Wilmington, Delaware for the Quad summit. The Quad leaders are likely to discuss major initiatives on topics such as infrastructure, maritime security, public-private partnerships, climate, health, critical and emerging technologies, and space during the summit.

Congressmen Ami Bera and Rob Whitman and Senators Tammy Duckworth and Pete Ricketts announced the formation of the Quad Caucus. The Quad Caucus was formed to draw attention to some of the more international issues. Bera said it is vital for the United States to continue to strengthen its relationship with the Quad partners because the Indo-Pacific region is critical to global security and economic prosperity.

U.S. Representatives Amy Berra (D-Calif.), Rob Wittman (R-Va.), and Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) and Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.) are leading the initiative. The caucus was formed to strengthen cooperation between the United States, Japan, India and Australia. The summit will be hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware.

A senior White House official told India Today that the core group reflects the bipartisan support that the Quad ministerial meeting that began during the Trump administration has gained over the past eight years. The official also said that a new Quad Coast Guard alliance is being formed in the Indo-Pacific region and India’s leadership role in it is appreciated.

The goal of the Quad (United States, Japan, India, Australia) is to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific. The alliance will focus on important issues such as infrastructure, maritime security, climate, public-private partnerships, health, and emerging technologies. “The security and economic prosperity of the Indo-Pacific requires the United States to maintain strong relationships with our Quad partners,” said Representative Amy Berra. “The Quad Caucus symbolizes our commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development in the region.”

Rep. Rob Wittman said the Quad’s cooperation was important in addressing emerging challenges, while Sen. Tammy Duckworth saw it as a symbol of the U.S. commitment to regional prosperity and stability. Sen. Pete Ricketts said, “Partnerships like the Quad are essential to protecting freedom and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.” The formation of the caucus will strengthen the U.S. commitment to long-term cooperation with its Indo-Pacific allies.
