After the claim of a Hanuman temple being built at a mazar site in Meerut, UP, the DM has now ordered an inquiry into the matter. Police said on Saturday that the District Magistrate of Meerut has formed a committee to investigate the claims of a Hanuman temple being built at a ‘mazar’ site in Kankarkheda area.
Temple built in place of tomb?
According to the news agency report, police and administration officials took notice of the matter after a video of the new temple went viral on social media a few days ago. District Magistrate Deepak Meena has formed a committee to investigate the history of the construction site and determine if there was a tomb there earlier.

SSP Dr. Vipin Tanda said, ‘There was no ‘Mazar’ there, there was an empty room there, the District Magistrate has handed over the investigation to the officials and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to investigate what was there earlier, ‘Mazar’ or temple. He said, ‘A report has been sought from the investigation team within seven days and further action will be taken after receiving the report.’
According to reports, some locals placed an idol of Lord Hanuman in a small room outside the Adarsh Colony area of Kankerkheda and started worshipping it. Police said some residents claimed that the room was once a ‘mazar’.

He said the installation of the idol and subsequent celebrations led to tension in the area. After a video of the temple surfaced, local officials, including Circle Officer (Daurala) Suchita Singh, visited the site to investigate the matter. Police also reviewed footage of nearby CCTV cameras. As a precaution, police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order.
