A contract worker at the Jagdaur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, has lost his job for allegedly charging patients Rs 2 instead of the stipulated fee of Re 1. The pharmacist was fired after a surprise inspection of the CHC by local BJP MP Prem Sagar Patel on Monday. The MLA has also issued a warning to the accused pharmacist.

Siswa MLA Prem Sagar Patel said he had received complaints from the public about irregularities in government health facilities. During inspections, it was found that pharmacists were charging patients two rupees for prescriptions instead of the official one rupee.

The video of the DOJ raiding CHC has been doing the rounds on social media. He told the pharmacist, “How dare you charge a single rupee more from a poor patient? I was an MLA and later transferred to DM. Wrongdoing will not be tolerated. I will not let the image of the government be tarnished.”

Prem Sagar Patel said he interacted with the patients and their families and took information from government agencies on other issues. In the process, many issues were discovered and necessary instructions were given to the people on the scene.

After the MLA’s visit, district health department officials confirmed that the pharmacist, identified as Sanjay, was a contract worker hired by a third-party agency. Additional chief medical officer Rajendra Prasad told news agencies on Monday evening: “The services of the employee who charged higher fees have been terminated.”
