The government is keeping a close watch on the high profile cases of Azam Khan. Constant vigilance is being maintained to prevent any kind of mistake. The Home Department of Uttar Pradesh Government has ordered an inquiry against the then Superintendent of Police of Rampur, Ashok Shukla. The government has ordered an inquiry into the removal of serious sections in the case of embezzlement of enemy property through fraud and changing the investigating officer to remove the name of Azam Khan.

The Home Department has also constituted a high level committee to investigate against the then Rampur Superintendent of Police Ashok Shukla, in which senior IAS officers, divisional commissioner, senior IPS officers, Inspector General of Police Vigilance have been ordered to investigate and provide the report to the government.

Actually, the matter is related to the land under the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University campus, which was registered in the name of Imamuddin Qureshi son of Badruddin Qureshi. Imamuddin Qureshi left India and went to Pakistan in 1947-48 and this property was registered as enemy property under the Custodian Department of the Government of India in 2006.

On checking the records, it came to light that the name of Afaq Ahmed was wrongly entered in the revenue records to embezzle enemy property by forging the records of the Revenue Department. The pages of the record were found torn. When the fake entry came to light, the case was registered in 2020 at Civil Lines Police Station, during the review of which in 2023, investigating officer Inspector Gajendra Tyagi included the name of Azam Khan among the accused on the basis of the statements of the Halka Lekhpal.

But the then Superintendent of Police, through his order, removed the interpretation from Gajendra Tyagi and transferred him to the crime branch and made Inspector Shrikant Dwivedi the investigator. After this, the police investigation was lax and the sections in this case were diluted and Azam Khan’s name was also removed from the charge sheet.
