UP Sanskrit Scholarships: There is good news for students studying Sanskrit in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched a Rs 586-crore scholarship scheme for Sanskrit students across the state to make this ancient language accessible to all. Under this initiative by Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, scholarships have been extended to 69,195 Sanskrit students, wherein funds will be transferred directly to the students’ bank accounts.
CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized on opening bank accounts for all students for safe and efficient transfer of funds into student accounts. The CM emphasized the potential of Sanskrit, describing it as a language with more scientific and technological applications than “Dev-Vani” (the sacred language). “Sanskrit is a scientific language that can be applied in modern fields such as computer science and artificial intelligence, and its unique structure makes it suitable for technical education,” he said.
Age limit removed for Sanskrit scholarships
Yogi said that previously only 300 students were eligible for the Sanskrit scholarship and the age limit was fixed. These restrictions have now been lifted. All students will receive benefits under the new plan.

Under the new scheme, the UP government will provide scholarships of Rs 586 crore to 69,195 Sanskrit students in the state, ranging from primary to master’s degree courses. CM Yogi said the neglect of Sanskrit education by previous governments, especially after 2000, was shocking. When the Sanskrit Education Board lapsed. The result is that thousands of students, despite being interested in Sanskrit, stay away from it. Earlier, scholarships for Sanskrit students were limited in terms of number and age. The goal of the new program is to provide financial aid to all eligible students. Thereby promoting the learning of Sanskrit.
Residential Gurukul to open in UP
In a bid to revive traditional education, CM Adityanath announced plans for Gurukul style residential schools in Uttar Pradesh. He said the return of the Gurukul system will strengthen India’s cultural heritage and educational strength. “This traditional system is the country’s real strength and can propel India towards global leadership,” he said.
Gurukul institutions in Uttar Pradesh will provide special assistance to students with free accommodation and food. They will also have autonomy to recruit qualified teachers, a move the government hopes will protect and advance India’s rich linguistic heritage.
