Cases of students “changing religion” to get admission into medical colleges have come to light. The case is related to Uttar Pradesh Subati University in Meerut. In order to get MBBS seats from the minority quota in the medical college, 17 students forged certificates of other religions. Upon investigation, it was found that the admission of eight MBBS admitted students had been cancelled and nine students had left their seats and ran away.

Subhuti Medical College is a private medical college and a Buddhist minority college. In the first phase of counselling, 22 seats were under the minority quota. 17 students obtained MBBS degrees by forging Buddhist certificates. This incident came to light during the first phase of counselling for UP NEET UG 2024.

This came to light after the Directorate General of Medical Education ordered a probe into complaints of fake certificates. In addition, a review of admission certificates of students of ethnic minority medical colleges across the country has also been initiated.

Kinjal Singh, Secretary, Department of Medical Education, said that after investigation, candidates found to have forged certificates will be disqualified from admission and legal action can be taken against them. The medical education department is seriously investigating the matter. After the investigation is completed, strict action will be taken against all those found guilty.
