Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s maiden speech in Lok Sabha
On the 75th anniversary of the country’s constitution, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh started a two-day discussion on the constitution in the Lok Sabha from Friday. Rajnath Singh lashed out at the Congress and Priyanka Gandhi spearheaded the response on behalf of the Congress. Through her first speech in the Lok Sabha, Priyanka was not only seen attacking the BJP and the Modi government but also delivering a political message. While she cornered the BJP by mentioning incidents from Unnao to Sambal and Manipur, she was also seen trying to create social balance by raising the demand for caste census.
Priyanka Gandhi, the MP who won the by-election to Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, delivered her maiden speech in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Priyanka Gandhi said that a voice emerged from the freedom struggle and it was the voice of courage, the voice of our freedom. Its echoes wrote and framed our Constitution. This is not just a document. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Maulana Azad, Jawaharlal Nehru and all the leaders of the time worked hard for years to draft the constitution. Our Constitution is the flame of justice, expression and aspirations that burns in the heart of every Indian. The Constitution gives power and justice to every person in the country. This constitution gives everyone the right to form and change government.
Using the Constitution as an excuse to target Modi
Over the past decade, Priyanka said, there have been efforts to break down that protective shield. The promise of economic, social and political justice enshrined in the Constitution is a protective shield and the work of breaking it has begun. How governments are eroding reservations through lateral entry and privatization. If these results do not materialize in the Lok Sabha elections, she will start work on amending the constitution. In this election, they know that only the people of this country can uphold this Constitution. In winning and losing this election, I realized that talk of amending the Constitution was not going to work in this country.

Priyanka Gandhi tried to send a clear message that if the BJP’s seats do not decrease in 2024, the Modi government will start work on amending the constitution. Targeting the Modi government, Priyanka Gandhi further said that she calls this constitution a constitution because through winning and losing this election, people have discovered that talk of changing the constitution will not work. That’s why we’re writing a constitution now, a constitution. Priyanka said that had it not been for this outcome, the Modi government and the BJP would never have remembered the Constitution.
Priyanka’s bet on caste census excuse
While raising the demand for caste census in the Lok Sabha, Priyanka Gandhi said that caste census is the need of the country today. This is why a caste census is necessary to understand who has how much participation and how so in order to formulate policies accordingly. When the entire opposition raises the caste census question strongly in the elections, look at their answers, the buffalos will steal their answers, they will steal the mangalsutra. This is how serious they (Modi government) are on the issue of caste census.
By raising the demand for caste census, Priyanka Gandhi is trying to kill two birds with one stone. Priyanka is using this as an excuse to try to woo the OBC community as the backward classes have been demanding this for a long time. Modi government refuses to conduct caste census. In this way, Priyanka Gandhi is trying to put the Modi government in the dock and tell the BJP that it is not serious about conducting caste census. Priyanka is also trying to rein in her allies as the main demand of parties like SP, RJD, DMK and JMM is caste census.
Congress general secretary Priyanka said earlier when Parliament functioned, the public expected the government to discuss inflation and unemployment. If new economic policies are formulated, it will strengthen the economy. Farmers and tribal brothers and sisters used to believe that if the land laws were changed, it would be for their welfare. Today, because of the election, people are talking a lot because our constitution gives them that. Correct. Turn votes into power. Today you must realize that you cannot form the government without them, why not implement the Women Empowerment Bill that you have proposed? Will women today wait for him for ten years? In this way, Priyanka Gandhi strived to reach out to half of the population.
Be careful, Priyanka acts in the name of Unnao
Priyanka Gandhi started her speech by mentioning the Unnao, Agra and Sambhar incidents. Priyanka said the BJP would get worried whenever the names of Sambhal and Manipur were mentioned. Priyanka said, In Unnao, I went to the house of a rape victim and she was burnt to death. Her age is probably 20-21 years old. When she went to fight, she was burned to death. In this case, I met the girl’s father. His field was burned, his brother was beaten, and his father was beaten to death outside the house. That father told me that I wanted justice. Priyanka also raised the Manipur issue.
Talking about the violence in Sambhar, Priyanka Gandhi mentioned the children whose fathers were shot dead. He said some family members of the victims from Sambal came to pick us up, including two children, Adnan and Uzair. One is about the same age as my son and the other is younger, 17 years old. His father is a tailor. The tailor has only one dream, and that is to educate his children. One son will become a doctor and the other will succeed. As usual, he went to take his children to school, but he had no idea a riot was about to happen. During this period, the police shot and killed his father, and 17-year-old Adnan told me that he wanted to become a doctor when he grew up to fulfill his father’s dream. This dream and hope was inculcated in his heart by the Constitution of India.
Priyanka is trying to resolve the political equation in UP, where the Congress has faced political exile for a long time, in the name of Sambhal and Unnao. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are focused on regaining the lost political support base in Uttar Pradesh. It has already won six seats by aligning with the SP in 2024 and now has its sights on the 2027 elections. In this context, Priyanka Gandhi in her first speech tried to convey a political message by mentioning the Unnao and Sambal incidents.
Priyanka uses Adani as excuse to target Modi
Priyanka Gandhi said that all the wealth, all the opportunities, all the ports, airports, roads, railways, mines, factories were given to only one person. The public has always believed that, if nothing else, the constitution was there for our security, but today, the common people are developing a perception that the government is only functioning in Adani’s interests. Inequality is rising rapidly in the country, with the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. In this way, Priyanka Gandhi is trying to portray the Modi government as pro-Adani and send out the message that the government only works for Adani.
